The introduction of the Lotus Elise to the U.S. market in 2005 was a welcome eye-opener and return to performance-focused two seat sports cars, breaking a slide into plump and posh bodies the class had been falling toward Stateside. Though the no-frills Elise is currently the eldest sibling of the Lotus car group, conceived in 1994 and released in Europe in 1996, the model continues to earn accolades worldwide for its design and performance, most notably it’s unparalleled handling for which the entire company is now renowned.
